Summer Reading!

Summer is slowly working its way into season which means the MCLS summer reading program is going to be here soon. This year’s theme is Adventure Begins at Your Library. Registration for the program is now open, so be sure to register as soon as possible. You don’t want to miss any adventures with your MCLS!

Registering allows participants to log their reading, event attendance, library activities, and to track prizes. Just for registering, participants earn a passport. They can use this passport to travel around their community and ask participating businesses to stamp their passports. Names of participating businesses can be found in READsquared under “Missions.”

This year, we have another great lineup of events. We have invited outside performers to be with us this summer. Those include Runaway Puppet Theater, Professor Universe, Animalogy, and the Manila High School Theatre department. Each event is free to attend. Events vary by location, and you are more than welcome to visit a library other than your home branch. That’s part of the adventure after all!

Local guests will be here as well to bring different adventures to you. Representatives of the Arkansas Welcome Center will be with us throughout the month to share day trip destinations inside Arkansas. This event will take place at the Blytheville and Manila libraries for ages 16 and up. MCEC will be here with their electrical arc machine, Blake Carr will discuss the other side of sports, Jamie Bellers will be offering CPR certification, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will bring their mobile aquarium.

Other events to look forward to include a Pet Show and Tell, Tie Dye T-Shirts, Teen Art in Action, Teen After Hours, Weekly Storytimes, and more! The calendar on the homepage of our website is live, and we are constantly updating it with additional activities for you and your family.
